The Bridge House Team
We are a family team, consisting of Ed and Lydia – long-time partners who took over management of Bridge House when they moved here in October 2022 together with Ed’s parents, Nick and Annette.
We’re a friendly bunch with a wide variety of interests, and we have made our home here intent on cultivating and sharing these with others as much as we can.

About Bridge House
Originally built as a farmhouse in the 1800s, Bridge House lay derelict for a time before being lovingly restored and extended by previous owners. It was established as a Bed & Breakfast around a decade ago by the most recent owner before Nick, Annette, Ed and Lydia took over.

About The Area
Bridge House boasts fabulous panoramic views of Milecastle 42, Cawfields and Hadrian’s Wall which encompasses its entire northern outlook. Only half a mile from Bridge House sits the National Trail set amidst spectacular scenery.
Bridge House is a mere half a mile from one of the most spectacular and dramatic stretches of Hadrian’s Wall and as such is an ideal base from which to visit the many historic sites and attractions it has on offer. This area presents some of the best walking in Hadrian’s Wall Country with a varied selection of walks taking in many of the historic sites and attractions all set amidst stunning scenery.
Bridge House is perfectly placed for any dark sky enthusiasts or budding astronomers, as we are situated half a mile from Cawfields – one of the most highly rated night sky sites in the country from where spellbinding views of the night sky can be seen – and even on occasion the Northern Lights! We’re also just three miles from Twice Brewed, where you can book a spectacular stargazing or planetarium experience with the experts based at the Twice Brewed Inn.

Sustainability & Climate Justice
Sustainability is one of our main focuses at Bridge House. Here are some things we’ve done so far:
- We have significantly reduced our use of single use plastic – including in our hot drinks stations, breakfast selection and lunch packaging
- Large scale composting repurposes all raw kitchen waste from the Milecastle Inn
- Solar panels supplying a significant percentage of our power; as well as an EV charger
- Planting trees – by the end 2025, we will have planted over 200 new trees on our site
- Seasonal Wildflower Meadows to encourage biodiversity
- Robotic mower (Marvin) is our all electric, time-saving and green alternative to a petrol mower
- Toiletry refills, biodegradable bin liners and eco-friendly cleaning products (where possible) used in our guest rooms
- Composting toilets in our Shepherds Huts to reduce water waste, with compost being used on our growing orchard, as well as recycled ethical toilet paper in all washrooms
- Ducks (Dotty, Deedee, Apricot, Lisa, Bluebell, Biscuit & Guinness) who lay delicious eggs for us, as well as providing nutrient rich compost for our Kitchen Garden
- Our organic Kitchen Garden with polytunnel, where we grow a wide range of produce, and incorporate it into our guest food and drink offering wherever possible
- Rainwater harvesting from the Field Shelter – we use this to refresh the ducks’ drinking and bathing water, and for watering the Kitchen Garden – reducing our reliance on mains water
But this is just the beginning – we know there’s always more we can do!
