Guests are encouraged to make use of our welcoming social spaces. During your stay, you can relax outdoors in The Garden, head inside to The Green Room, or take a walk through our beautiful field and meet the ducks!
The Garden
Our dedicated guests’ garden sits beside the main house, with a grass lawn and views across to Whin Sill. Here, you can hear the rushing of Haltwhistle Burn as it flows along below a steep drop at the end of our garden, towards town.
We have a fire pit area where you are welcome to sit of an evening – just ask us and we’ll provide you with some logs!
There is also a picnic bench – if the weather is good, feel free to take your breakfast out here!
The Green Room
The Green Room is our guests’ shared garden lounge, and is accessed through the Garden. Here you can choose a board game from our collection, take a comfy seat and peruse our little library, or simply sit back and enjoy our ever-changing panoramic views across Whin Sill.
Our library consists of a selection of books to spark your curiosity; inspired by the richness of our local landscape, you can learn the basics of skywatching, deepen your knowledge of the Wall and life in Roman Britain, or delve into some vintage hillwalking books. There are also art books, poetry anthologies, and books on local history and regional folklore.
We also have a ‘Take-One-Leave-One’ basket of novels, so if you’re finished with your current read, you can leave it for someone else and help yourself to a new one.
The Green Room also has a kitchenette for your convenience – there’s a kettle, fridge, microwave and toaster, plus plenty of free hot drinks and drinking water. There are also plates, bowls, mugs, glasses and cutlery for you to use.
You’ll also find extra blankets and hot water bottles, and phone charging cables.
You’re always welcome to take a stroll through our field, and admire the view over to the Wall. During May, June and July, you’ll be surrounded by stunning tall grasses and several species of wildflowers including beautiful purple orchids.
The field is also home to our seven Indian runner ducks; Dotty, Deedee, Apricot, Lisa, Guinness, Bluebell and Biscuit. They are a little shy, but you might see them foraging about for worms and bugs, or relaxing in their enclosure.
Coming soon to the field is our Quoits Pitch – a popular pub sport among farmers and non-farming folk alike, our field proudly hosts the home ground of the Milecastle Wanderers team. During the season (May-August), catch us on match days (Wednesday evenings) to watch thrilling games, or see us practicing on a Monday evening. You might even get to have a go!
